What is Hidely?
Hidely is a camera and gallery application that focuses on privacy. Unlike most privacy galleries that only store photos behind a protected vault, Hidely incorporates the camera as well to make the entire process secure. It’s in the Google Play Store for free with no in app purchases.
Here’s how Hidely works. It boasts a zero-trace camera that is built into the app which automatically stores pictures in the secured vault. The vault is password protected and your pictures are also encrypted so it takes more than a wink and a wave to get at them. You can also move previously taken photos into the vault for additional security if you so choose. It really is a simple system without a lot of unnecessary frills.
Along with private storage, Hidely also allows you to privately share. When you share using the app, there’s a private link that expires after one use or after 24 hours (your choice) and the recipients can only view it using Hidely. When you add it up, the app does a fairly decent job of keeping your photo safe from sight for pretty much the entire process and that’s what makes it unique.
A nice attempt but missing some stuff.
- Boasts security from the moment the photo is taken to the moment it’s shared which is nice.
- Free with no in app purchases.
- Password protected and encrypted.
- The private sharing feature is one of this app’s best features.
- Hardly any camera settings which makes this a downgrade as a camera app.
- Bugs and issues have been reported, including password issues and the inability to share multiple images at once.
- Feels half finished, incomplete.
- Forces people to download Hidely in order to view shared content which isn’t always preferable or convenient.
