What is The Sleeping Prince?

The Sleeping Prince is a platform action game with a unique set of physics. You play as a sleeping prince named Prince Perilous who sleeps through the entire adventure and you must throw him around to slay bad guys and save the kingdom. It’s currently free in the Google Play Store on a promotional basis but eventually it’ll be a paid app with an undetermined price.

In most cases, the game feels and acts like and action platformer. You jump around, beat up bad guys, solve puzzles and collect various items and gems to collect points, unlock levels, and purchase upgrades. The catch is that guy you play is stone cold asleep and instead of running and jumping, you’re flinging this dude’s unconscious body around every level. Think of it like Sheriff Woody from Toy Story when the kid is in the room and throwing him around. That’s what this game is like.

There are 40 levels that are filled with items, puzzles, and bad guys. The flinging physics are a fun and hilarious take on the action platformer and forces players to look at the genre from a different perspective which is nice. The game does work offline which is a nice touch for those of you who need that.

PROS

  • A different take on the 2D action platformer genre with rag doll physics and fling commands instead of running and jumping.

  • The developer actually removed the in app purchases and plans to make this a paid game but at the time of this review, it’s free.

  • 40 levels, unlockable items and upgrades, and various in-level challenges make this game feel more complete.

  • The graphics are colorful and decent.

CONS

  • There are some bugs and issues reported here and there as usual. Nothing serious but it’s worth noting.

  • The game can be played offline if you really want it to, but it’ll bug you about going online and that’s occasionally annoying.
